Robbers are targeting airtime vendors on the pretext that they are innocent people intending to buy airtime.
Those in town selling airtime are the main targets.
An airtime vendor in Marondera was approached by three men who pretended as if they were harmless customers who wanted to buy airtime with a hundred South African Rand note and requested a change in United States Dollars.
The vendor gave them airtime and change, but these men in their civilian attire produced identity cards claiming to be police officers.
They dragged the vendor into their Honda Fit AFE 3874 gray in color. They indicated that they were going to ZRP Marondera Central but suddenly, they changed direction when they reached Bornmarche Mall.
On the way, the vendor wrestled and managed to jump out of the vehicle.
The vendor lost two cellphones and four hundred and fifty United States Dollars.
Vendors are being encouraged to be vigilant in town as they may lose their hard earned cash to robbers who disguise as potential customers.
